Our Philosophy

Independence Plus strives to revolutionize supported living services for people with disabilities. Independence Plus instructors inspire our clients to be active participants in every aspect of their lives. We recognize that our instructors are more than a support staff–they serve as allies, mentors, coaches, advocates, and trusted friends.

Independence Plus specializes in teaching daily living skills, as well as, creating personalized tools and roadmaps so clients can achieve independence without staff intervention.

We help clients find membership in their local community to enhance adult status and expand their circle of support. Many of our clients create longterm friendships through volunteerism, joining an adult sports league, enrolling in evening classes, or being introduced to a local group. Our instructors actively role-model respectful interaction with the client so he or she is treated with dignity by the group and viewed as an adult.

Independence Plus understands how each person’s disability contributes to specific challenges that affect the person’s life experiences and perspective. We use a truly person-centered approach and believe that facilitating incremental successes creates self-esteem and a positive self-view. This opens doors to meaningful friendships, community inclusion, and general independence. Our team uses industry expertise, technology, creativity, and compassion while assisting our clients in overcoming life’s hurdles and achieving personal goals of true independence and adulthood.

The Independence Plus vision is not only to empower independence in our clients, but to also change the hearts and minds of the community in how they perceive the people we support.
